Project Controls Manager

Company Overview: 
Our client has an exciting opportunity for a Project Controls Manager with successful and progressive experience in providing job level accounting and other financial administrative reporting and analysis support to project level management.  This team member will report to the Chief Operating Officer and will work daily with the Project Managers, Project Superintendents, other project staff members and other project and corporate staff.

Position Summary: The successful candidate shall have the inclusive responsibility to provide technical, analytical, an administrative support to the project team. This person will be acting as an expert on Project Controls methods, procedures, systems, and development of analytic information.

The role requires travel, up to 10%, and long hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Additionally, a pressurized environment is the norm.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage areas of scheduling, contracts administration, document controls, and project cost controls
  • Oversee project revenues and expenditures along with budgetary guidelines
  • Provide recommendations on cost and schedule issues, concerns, and recovery plans
  • Deliver project cost forecasting to the Project Manager in real-time
  • Provide data analytics in a meaningful and normalized manner
  • Develop and lead a strong project controls team
  • Collaborate with various project stake holders to develop and manage both internal and external change orders
  • Perform and ensure an effective cost control and reporting function for ongoing projects by working with the Project Managers and the Company’s Cost Manager to review cost reports for accuracy and timeliness of quantity inputs
  • Analyze deviations, assist in preparation of project reforecasts, and identify and reconcile P.O. issues
  • Understand technical construction documents to be able to assist in developing budget reforecasts and monitor progress of work per cost account to assure adherence to budget
  • Promptly produce clear and concise summary report findings from assessment and analysis including cost overages and other unsatisfactory elements.
  • Participate in cost enhancements
  • Provide independent forecast completion costs based on trends including:
    • Labor rate analysis
    • Commitments
    • Change management
    • Schedule impacts and material cost variances
    • Productivity measurement earned value
  • Communicate independently with senior levels of financial and executive management (ownership) to review, audit, and validate cost-to-complete forecasts using cost report data on the construction projects

Qualifications:

  • BS Construction, Engineering, or other relevant fields of study
  • Minimum eight years of industry tenure
  • Expert in value engineering
  • Significant field-based project execution experience
  • Progressive field-based leadership roles
  • Strong knowledge of various ERP solutions
  • Knowledge of estimating process
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge of standard construction accounting policies and procedures
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Must be able to work and be effective in a fast-paced, demanding, and lean environment providing quick yet accurate results with the ability to multi-task independently in a larger corporate environment
